I have a lot of media to update, as I have been slack on the updating. I hope I don't miss anything. I think I left off with Epic Movie. It might have been funny, but I can't really remember. Must not have been that good.
Then I watched 5 X 2. French... backwards plot. Not bad.
Luther was kind of hard to get through. It was funded by the church so it was very religious. But still pretty.
The Sopranos was highly recommended to me by a few people. So I got the first part of the first season (4 episodes) and I barely finished watching it before it was due back. Too much violence, not my cup of tea. I don't think I will watch it anymore. I want to go back to Scrubs... if it ever gets sent!
I finished reading Wuthering Heights. I liked it very much. It spanned the drama of a couple generations. That's always fun. I love to read about the way society used to be have. What was proper. What was taboo. The ways people interacted with each other. I swear I was born in the wrong century.
So I watched the movie too, and it was faithful to the book. I was pleased.
Last night I watched Dead Again. It was kind of cheesy, obviously an older film. I would guess late 80s, very early 90s from the hair. But it did have Kenneth Branagh in it, and I love him.
Today I watched another Kenneth Branagh: Much Ado About Nothing. I thought I'd read the play, but after watching it, I'm fairly certain I haven't. That's something I'll have to catch up on. Pretty movie. I could have watched it twice.
I just finished watchng Russian Ark. It was kind of weird. Ok, very weird. I'm not sure the point of the film. It bounced around in time a lot. No real plot. I think it was basically a show of Russian art. It did make me want to brush up my Russian history though. They never really taught us much abuot Russia in school. The most exposure I've oggten is reading Dostoyevsky.
Last night I watched Hamlet. They tried to modernize it like the Romeo & Juliet with Leo.... But I think it kinda sucked. Not very good acting and it seemed very choppy. If you weren't already familiar with the story you would have been lost watching it.
This morning I watched Little Miss Sunshine. It was ok I guess. Still haven't figured out why that one guy told me it was such an awesome movie. I didn't see anything awesome about it.
Just finished watching Night at the Museum. It was ok as well. Not too terribly cheesy, but it was cheesy.
I finished reading The Devils this week. Good book. Interesting thoughts on good and evil and the existence of God. All with that typical Russian flair.
Watched Sliding Doors the other day. Not bad. I can't really talk about it without giving away the plot. But basically it was one of those Its a Wonderful Life type movies, where you see what happens if something else didn't happen.
Today I watched A Life Less Ordinary. Mostly for Ewan. You're so cute Mr McGregor.
Monday I finished watching my Scrubs Season One. Woo... love some Scrubs. They got me through DHE!
Last night I watched Happily N'ever After. Cheesy little cartoon. Yup. Nothing wonderful about it.
Then I watched V for Vendetta, which for some reason I was thinking was some kinda of action movie with the Rock... but um.. it isn't. THANK GOD. It wasn't bad. I'm fairly anti-comic turned movie, but I was able to sit through this one.
Today I watched a very Romeo & Juliet type movie called Tristan & Isolde. It was ok, another period piece. Sad ending but not nearly good enough to make me cry. I can't say Franco's acting was particularly good. He was always making a face, like the one on the cover. Kinda dull. Myles looks almost exactly like my roommates sister. Her acting was a little better.
Then I watched He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not which has that girl Tautou from Amelie. Nice little plot twist; I enjoyed it. I like movies about crazy people. Maybe because they make me feel a little more sane.
Sense and Sensibility renewed my hope in novel based movies. It was very good and very faithful to the story as I remember it. I like Kate Winslet, ever since she did Ophelia in Hamlet (which is the best version of Hamlet I've ever seen). The movie made me a little sad though. The character of Elanor reminds me of myself and I really think I will become an old maid. She did eventually find someone but she almost lost him due to extenuating circumstances. How familiar, gah!
Then I watched Crime and Punishment.... or tried to at least. It must have been made in the 70's or something horrible. The book was great but it isn't really movie material. There is way to much thinking and personal dialogue to put in a movie. It ended up with a lot of dead time and it was very boring. I fastfarwarded most of the last 2/3.
Last night I rented The Scarlet Letter, which I read last year sometime and I thought was a pretty good book. The movie though... not so much. They totally warped the ending to make it happily ever after, and I may have a shitty memory, but I swear the guy dies in the book. There isn't any cute little ride off into the sunset. I don't approve of your poetic licence, Mr Director. Sure, throw in some made up extra scenes to get Demi Moore naked. Great idea. I don't think Hawthorne envisioned his novel as a softcore porn. And forgive me for sounding feminist, but the whole message of the book was warped by downplaying Hester's emotional strength and totally forgetting the Reverand was a spineless coward (yes, I know that's redundant). He suddenly becomes some kind of knight in shinning armour. Dumb.
On another note, tonight I watched Shawshank Redemption, per Mycah's suggestion. I liked it. Yup... I guess I have a lot more to say when I don't like a movie.
Friday night I used my first free rental to get Marie Antoinette. I've liked Kirsten since Interview with the Vampire, and I think she did a good job. The movie in general was decent; choppy but I think that was the "style." And it was nice the way they made Marie Antoinette almost likable. You even feel a little sorry for her. Not to mention I'm a sucker for period pieces. It was a pretty movie.
I have a feeling this Blockbuster online is going to make me a movie junkie. I'm going to go to the store right now to turn this in for a free rental. And there's already 2 more movies in the mail. Who needs a social life, I will just watch movies!
Wednesday was my last day at the movie theatre. Yay. I watched Miss Potter after I got off work. It was a typical chick flick and I almost cried. I wonder if she was really as coo-coo as they make her out to be. Anyway, Ewan McGregor is cute, as always. Even if he is a bit of a dork.
